TVNZ digitization follow-up request

Joss J. made this Official Information request to Jacinda Ardern

The request was successful.

From: Joss J.

Dear Jacinda Ardern,

Firstly, congratulations on your new appointment.

This is a follow-up request to an earlier OIA (https://fyi.org.nz/request/6578-tvnz-arc...) I made to the then Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Maggie Barry.

The Minister supplied me with the Memorandum of Understanding between the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage and Nga Taonga Sound & Vision dated 1 Aug 2014 - 30 June 2017. It included details of former Broadcasting Minister Hon Craig Foss’s admirable initiative in 2014 to make thousands of titles from the TVNZ Archive freely available online within three years, along with parts of the TVNZ database.

I would now like to request from the new Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage:

1. The current MoU between the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage and Nga Taonga

2. Details of any actions that the former Minister (Maggie Barry) undertook to ensure Nga Taonga kept to the outcomes of the MoU (1 August 2014 - 30 June 2017). Specifically, actions relating to the following two clauses detailed in the MoU:

MoU Schedule 4, clause 7.2 (i.e. “The Archive will progressively digitise the content of the TVNZ Archive for the purpose of making it available on the internet…the following number of items will be digitised each year…[table of digitised items and their availability online]..”).

MoU Schedule 4, clause 12.1 and 12.2 (i.e. Nga Taonga will copy the TVNZ Archive database “onto a database that is accessible to the public on the internet at regular intervals”).

Thanks in advance for your response and congratulations once again,

Yours faithfully,

Joss J.

Dear Sarah Marten,

Thanks Sarah for the reply. To be honest, I was a bit concerned to hear the RNZ news report on the 25 Nov saying Nga Taonga had dropped all of its TVNZ Archive digitization and access targets. So it's good to see that this isn't the case and the MoU stands intact. All the best for the festive season,

Yours sincerely,

Joss J.
