Thank you for supplying documents (https://fyi.org.nz/request/6578-tvnz-arc...) relating to former Broadcasting Minister Hon Craig Foss’s admirable initiative in 2014 to make around 20,000 titles from the TVNZ Archive freely available online within three years, along with elements of the TVNZ Archive database (e.g. a Title search) – a truly rich resource for the New Zealand public to be able to search and view.
In relation to the legally binding Memorandum of Understanding between the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage and Nga Taonga Sound & Vision dated 1 Aug 2014 - 30 June 2017, I request the following information from the Ministry (as it has responsibility to advise the Minister on Nga Taonga’s service and financial performance):
Regarding MoU Schedule 4, clause 7.1 (“Prior to 1 May in each year.. the Archive and Crown will meet to agree a policy and/or schedule for the copying of the [TVNZ] Archive Collection over the following 12-months”).
1. Please supply the dates of these meetings in 2015, 2016 and 2017, a list of attendees and/or job titles and the resulting policies and/or schedules for the ongoing copying of the TVNZ Archive collection in each 12-month period.
Regarding MoU Schedule 4, clause 7.2 (“The Archive will progressively digitise the content of the TVNZ Archive for the purpose of making it available on the internet…the following number of items will be digitised each year”).
2. Please supply the actual number of TVNZ Archive items that were digitised by Nga Taonga in each year, against the numbers committed to in the MoU. The MoU states 1,000 TVNZ Archive items to be digitised in 2014/15; 3,000 in 2015/16; 3,000 in 2016/17; 3,000 in 2017/18.
3. Please supply the actual number of TVNZ Archive items that were made available online by Nga Taonga each year (either to approved users or on Nga Taonga’s website) against the numbers committed to in the MoU. The MoU states 500 TVNZ Archive items to be online in 2014/15; 2,000 in 2015/16; 3,000 in 2016/17; 4,000 in 2017/18. Please also supply a list of “approved users” that were able to stream the items (as noted in clause 7.2).
4. For all of the TVNZ Archive items made available online by Nga Taonga between 1 August 2014 – 30 June 2017 please supply the internet URLs by which I can access the content.
Regarding MoU Schedule 4, clause 7.2 (“A minimum of 2,000 items will be available on the internet by June 30, 2016”).
5. Please supply the total number of TVNZ Archive items digitised by Nga Taonga that were freely available on the internet at 30 June 2016.
6. Please supply the total number of items identified as containing “Significant Maori material” (Schedule 4, clause 9) in the TVNZ Archive material that have been digitised by Nga Taonga under this MoU, and also the total number of those items that are now available freely online.
Regarding MoU Schedule 4, clause 12.1 and 2 (Nga Taonga will copy the TVNZ Archive database “onto a database that is accessible to the public on the internet at regular intervals”).
7. Please supply the URL of where I can find the TVNZ Archive database online, and list the dates Nga Taonga have updated the information during the period 2014-2017.
8. Please specify what actions (if any) that the Ministry have taken to ensure Nga Taonga adheres to the outputs and outcomes specified in this MoU.

Thank you for your answers. Can you please clarify one of the sentences in your response relating to the amount of TVNZ Archive content made available online under the MoU between the Minister and Nga Taonga.
You say (top of page 2) "... there are 920 titles from the TVNZ collection available on the NZ On Screen website".
To clarify, are you saying that Nga Taonga supplied 920 TVNZ Archive titles to NZ On Screen during the period of the MoU (2014-2017)? Or were you just making a general comment about TVNZ titles being online? And are you able to supply the source for that 920 figure?

Please refer below for answers to your questions.
Q: To clarify, are you saying that Nga Taonga supplied 920 TVNZ Archive
titles to NZ On Screen during the period of the MoU (2014-2017)? Or were
you just making a general comment about TVNZ titles being online?
A: The reference to "920" is a general comment about the number of TVNZ
titles being available on the NZ On Screen website.
Q: And are you able to supply the source for that 920 figure?
A: NZ On Screen (via Nga Taonga).
