Cocaine in New Zealand
Ryan S made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
The request was successful.
From: Ryan S
Dear New Zealand Police,
I saw recently on the news that you recently were involved in catching/seizing the largest shipment of cocaine to New Zealand. Thank you for keeping our communities safe from this drug.
Could you provide the following details in regards to cocaine in New Zealand if available
How many kilos of Cocaine have been seized each year for the past 10 years in New Zealand?
Does the New Zealand police department have a division/department for dealing specifically with drug related crimes?
If yes, how many staff work there?
How many arrests have been made for cocaine for each year in the past 5 years?
If available, where are the arrests for cocaine use distributed across the country?
Where is the cocaine being seized being sourced from? (If known)
What kind of lab tests are done on cocaine when it is seized?
How is seized cocaine destroyed?
If available, any internal reports on cocaine use within New Zealand produced within the past 2 years.
Yours faithfully,
Ryan S

Dear Ryan
I refer to your Official Information Act request received by Police on 6
November 2017 for information about cocaine use and seizures in New
Zealand.
The purpose of this letter is to notify you that Police requires an
extension of time in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section
15A(1) of the Official Information Act 1982, because the request
necessitates research and consultations such that a proper response to the
request cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. Police
requires until 23 January 2018 to provide a substantive response to your
request.
You have the right to complain to the Office of the Ombudsman about this
extension.
