Mr Lock

I am sending this email in reference to the email of 28 August requesting
information pertaining to “how many incidences involving firearms were
reported by member of the NZ Police for the month of January, including
any firearms found during searches of property or vehicles. Can this
information be supplied by the date in January 2017 and the policing
district where each incident occurred”.

In order to complete the response for this request I need clarification as
to exactly what information you are requesting.

Is it:

·         specifically those instances that were reported by police
officers (ie, police officer reported the offence)

·         all victimisations involving firearms (eg, assault with firearm,
regardless of whether it was member of the public or a police member) or

·         all offences with a firearm (this will also include licensing
offences that may not have a victim)

I am unable to progress this request any further until I have confirmation
from you as to what information you are requesting. Could you please
contact me at this email address or on (04) 474 9499 to discuss this.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Mr Lock

I refer to your request of 9 September 2017 for information about 22
victimisations..

I have been asked to notify you that Police requires an extension of time
in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A(1) of the
Official Information Act 1982, because the request necessitates
consultations such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.

Police require until 16 October 2017 to provide a substantive response to
your request.

You have the right to complain to the Office of the Ombudsmen about this
extension.

Dear MCMAHON, Teresa,

Thank you for your response.

In relation to question 3 of my request "How many firearms were seized from the incidences" you have replied "of the remaining six occurrences firearms were seized in two of these".

This answer does not address the original question "How many firearms were seized from the incidences"

Can this question please be answered?

As an addition question, Of the firearms seized what type were they? (A,B,C,D) or would you prefer an addition official information act request to be lodge for this information?

Yours sincerely,

Malcolm Lock
