A specific set of criteria for distinguishing "junk science" as quoted by Minister Smith
Phil Wheeler made this Official Information request to Ministry for the Environment
The request was successful.
From: Phil Wheeler
Dear Ministry for the Environment,
Minister Nick Smith referred to "junk science" in response to a Radio New Zealand interviewer's argument[1] that a proportion of people would become sick, based on proposed tolerance guidelines, by swimming in water approved at those new limits.
Could the ministry please provide a response on specifically how the government defines "junk science", what specific criteria are used to measure and qualify "junk science" as opposed to more reliable science and how - and in what form - data should be put forward to ministers so as to ensure it does not meet this new threshold for "junk science".
Yours faithfully,
Phil Wheeler
