The request was successful.

From: [User 4230 name redacted]

Dear Ministry of Education,

Could you please provide further information in regards to a complaint made by a parent to a Speech and Language Therapist about Normandale School in September 2015?

Your OIA response dated 25 May 2016 states that 'a mother was concerned at the way she was treated at Normandale School.' It further states that a Senior Advisor called the mother and discussed the issue with her. It does not state what the nature of the issue actually is, as per the original request, so further clarification is now formally requested.

The specific information required is:

- what was the exact treatment that the mother complained about?
- was the treatment she complained about conducted by a staff member or the Principal?

As this matter relates to a current complaint with the Education Council, this specific information is requested urgently.

Yours faithfully,

The Ministry would consistently respond to my private email address, rather than publicly via the FYI site. This makes sharing their response difficult without breaching privacy.

The original complaint made to the Ministry of Education was in regards to the poor treatment of the parent by the school principal, when she enquired about enrolment of her special needs child.

The Ministry's response to the OIA was that the parent did not enrol her child at Normandale School because the school 'was not welcoming'.

When the Ministry passed on the concern to the principal, she responded that "at all times the door had been left open for the mother to enrol her daughter." The Ministry was satisfied by this response and did not investigate further.
