Statistics on seclusion

Alex Harris made this Official Information request to Bay of Plenty District Health Board

The request was successful.

From: Alex Harris

Dear Bay of Plenty District Health Board,

I would like to request the following information under the OIA:

* The number of mental health patients currently detained in seclusion units
* How long each has been detained for. I'm happy for this to be aggregated into bands (e.g. less than one month, 1 - 3 months, 3 - 6 months, 6 months - 1 year and so on) in order to protect privacy. If this would result in a refusal for substantial collation and research because there are more than a hundred such detainees, I am happy to limit the statistics to those detained for more than six months.

I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about
this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the
fyi.org.nz website.

With regards to s12 of the OIA, I am an NZ citizen and in NZ.

Yours faithfully,

Alex Harris

Alex,

Please find below answers to your questions as per your Official
Information Act request dated 8 June 2016:

1.      The number of mental health patients currently detained in
seclusion units.

There are no mental health patients currently detained in seclusion rooms.

2.      How long each has been detained for.  I’m happy for this to be
aggregated into bands (e.g. less than one month, 1–3 months, 3-6 months, 6
months, 1 year and so on) in order to protect privacy.  If this would
result in a refusal for substantial collation and research because there
are more than a hundred such detainees, I am happy to limit the statistics
to those detained for more than six months.

As noted above there are currently no patients in seclusion.
