Dear Government Communications Security Bureau,
I am interested in requesting the following information regarding the recent export control directive issued by the US government in regards to Anthropic's Mythos/Fable 5 models:
1. Any type of risk assessment or gap analysis prepared by the GCSB/NCSC regarding loss of access to the Mythos/Fable 5 models as it relates to New Zealand's ability to defend itself against cyber threats
2. Any briefings, aide-memoires or other advice provided to the Minister responsible for the GCSB, DPMC and/or the National Security and Resilience Group regarding the impact of Mythos/Fable 5's revocation
3. Any document capturing steps taken, or options considered, to offset or replace the capabilities provided by the now-revoked Mythos/Fable 5 models
4. Any document that assesses New Zealand's reliance on foreign-controlled AI capabilities
5. Any correspondence with Five Eyes partners regarding the revocation of Mythos/Fable 5
6. Any document, dated before 12 June 2026 (when the Mythos/Fable 5 revocation happened), identifying the risk that NZ access to a US-controlled frontier AI capability could be withdrawn
If any of the above are required to be withheld, I would like to receive a schedule listing those documents by date, document type, the general role of the author and if possible, a general summary of contents
Yours faithfully,
Marcus

Dear Marcus Crane
We refer to your official information request dated 24 June for
information relating to Anthropic's Mythos, set out in your email below.
The Official Information Act 1982 requires that we advise you of our
decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day that
we received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet
that time limit and we are, therefore, writing to notify you of an
extension of the time to make our decision, to 21 August 2026.
This extension is necessary because consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request with us, including this
decision, please feel free to contact [1][GCSB request email].
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[2]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Kind regards
GCSB

Dear Information (GCSB),
Thanks for notifying me of the extension which is not a problem.
I would be interested to know which consultations are outstanding that were unable to be performed within the 20 working day window?
Much appreciated,
