We kindly ask for the following information:

1. The location or name of all property owned by the Council for the purposes of forestry for commercial benefit be that production or carbon credits.

2. Do the council have any involvement in the planting of these forests? if so please provide the name of any species planted during 2025, or planned for 2026 and 2027.

3. Does the council lease any forestry areas' to any companies or organisations, if so please name the current parties for each location.

4. Do the council plan changing the purpose of any land they own for forestry to another purpose? i.e to housing or non forestry use? or is the council planning on selling or disposing of any land currently used for forestry?

On 15 April 2026 you requested the following information under the Local
Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA).

 

1. The location or name of all property owned by the Council for the
purposes of forestry for commercial benefit be that production or carbon
credits.
2. Do the council have any involvement in the planting of these forests?
if so please provide the name of any species planted during 2025, or
planned for 2026 and 2027.
3. Does the council lease any forestry areas' to any companies or
organisations, if so please name the current parties for each location.

Release of information

The location or name of all property owned by the Council for the purposes
of forestry for commercial benefit be that production or carbon credits.

Bottle Lake and Chaney’s Forests are two council owned forests which are
leased for production forestry.

 

Do the council have any involvement in the planting of these forests? if
so, please provide the name of any species planted during 2025, or planned
for 2026 and 2027.

Council oversees the lease of these forests.

 

Does the council lease any forestry areas to any companies or
organisations, if so please name the current parties for each location.

There is a current lease with Matariki Forest for land at Bottle Lake and
Chaney’s Forests.

 

Does the council plan changing the purpose of any land they own for
forestry to another purpose? i.e to housing or non-forestry use? or is the
council planning on selling or disposing of any land currently used for
forestry?

In relation to the Bottle Lake and Chaney’s Forests there are no changes
planned and they will continue to serve as both working forests and spaces
for public recreation. There is no forestry land in the property disposal
process.
