Kia ora Waimakariri District Council,

I would like to request the following information regarding council owned forestry with a commercial benefit or outcome.

1. The size and location of all forestry owned by the Council that has a commercial purpose or outcome.

2. Whether any of this forestry is scheduled for harvesting in 2026 or 2027. If so, please provide the location(s) and area (in hectares).

3. For any forestry that has been, or is planned to be, harvested in 2025, 2026 or 2027, please provide details of the species intended for replanting and the corresponding locations if any.

4. Whether the Council has any land that is leased or agreed for both forestry and recreational use? if so please provide the locations and type of recreational use.

Good Day

We acknowledge receipt of your official request made pursuant to the Local
Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA), seeking
information regarding Council-owned forestry with a commercial benefit or
outcome.

The Council confirms receipt of your request on 7 April 2026. In
accordance with Section 13 of the LGOIMA, the Council is obligated to
respond as soon as reasonably practicable and, in any event, no later than
20 working days following the date of receipt. Should an extension of time
be required under Section 14 of the LGOIMA, written notification will be
provided, specifying both the reasons for the extension and the revised
due date for the Council’s response.

have any questions regarding your request, or if further information or
clarification becomes relevant, please contact me directly at

Dear Thea Kunkel,

Thank you for your reply and the valuable information.

Please can you clarify if the council own land where commercial / production forests are at these locations:

* Watsons Reserve Road (along the old rail corridor)
* Rockford Road

And any planned harvest or works on this land between now and 2027.

I am not sure if this information has been omitted or it is not your land.
