Ministry of Justice
Tena Koe Mr Lavery
Thank you for your request of 25 March 2026 seeking information, under the
Official Information Act (1982), regarding the Policing Amendment Bill
(the Bill). Specifically you requested:
I request the following information under the Official Information Act
1982.
The report prepared by the Attorney-General under section 7 of the New
Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990 in respect of the Policing Amendment Bill
(No. 268-1), if such a report has been prepared.
If no section 7 report has been prepared, I request confirmation of that
fact and any advice provided to the Attorney-General regarding the Bill’s
consistency with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990.
I request that this information be provided in electronic form where
possible.
The advice the Ministry of Justice provided to the Attorney-General about
the consistency of the Bill with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act is
available here:
[1]https://www.justice.govt.nz/assets/Docum....
We are therefore declining this part of your request under section 18(d)
of the act, as this information is publicly available.
We can also advise that the Attorney-General did not find the Bill to be
inconsistent with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990 and did not
therefore present a report to Parliament under section 7 of that Act.
Please note that this response, with your personal details removed, may be
published on the Ministry website at: [2]Official Information Act
responses | New Zealand Ministry of Justice.
If you are not satisfied with this response, you have the right to make a
complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28 of the Act. The Office of the
Ombudsman may be contacted by phone on: 0800 802 602, by email at:
[email address], or via the webform: [3]Make a complaint (for
members of the public) | Ombudsman New Zealand.
