Jeremy Nimmo made this Official Information request to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
The request was partially successful.
From: Jeremy Nimmo
Dear Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,
A few days ago, the MFATNZ Twitter/'x' account issued a statement attacking New Zealand's largest trading partner for prosecuting the crimes of a terrorist who supported terrorism against Hong Kong and the rest of China, including the burning alive of construction worker and family man Lee Chi-cheung:
https://x.com/MFATNZ/status/200043787794...
I am requesting all information held by MFAT, including communications with the office of Winston Peters etc, in regards the issuance of this vile statement. Not a summary, the original emails/texts/position papers etc.
Cheers,
Jeremy

Very helpful. Documents confirm that Winston Peters, though he was primarily acting on the instructions of external 'partners' (his boss Donald Trump) was fully in agreement with MFAT's decision to issue a statement calling Jimmy Lai's support for riots and setting working class family men on fire and Jimmy Lai's calls for the US to launch unprovoked nuclear attacks against Chinese civilians "independent journalism".
