entry requirements for BDS (dentistry) and MBChB (medicine) from Maori and Pacific Category

S Clarke made this Official Information request to University of Otago

Response to this request is long overdue. By law University of Otago should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: S Clarke

Dear University of Otago,

May I please have threshold entry requirements for BDS (dentistry) and MBChB (medicine) from Maori and Pacific subgroup from 2021, 2020 and 2019 for graduate students.

My requests include:

1. Entry requirements (academic grades) for BDS (dentistry) and MBChB (medicine) from HSFY for graduate students

2. Lowest academic grades of Maori and Pacific students who got into BDS (dentistry) and MBChB (medicine) in the last 3 years

3. Number of Maori and Pacific students who got into BDS (dentistry) and MBChB (medicine) in the last 3 years

2. Is there a set number of Maori and Pacific students & set academic grade threshold for BDS (dentistry) and MBChB (medicine) entry?

3. Was there any changes made due to Covid-19? (eg. decreasing/increasing the acceptance rate of Maori and Pacific students for BDS (dentistry) and MBChB (medicine))

I appreciate your effort and time spent answering my requests and questions.

Yours sincerely,
S Clarke

We refer to your information request dated 22 August 2022 made under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act). You have requested information in relation to entry to the BDS and MB ChB programmes at the University of Otago via the Graduate Māori and Graduate Indigenous Pacific sub-categories.

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the date your request was received. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit. We are therefore writing to notify you, pursuant to section 15A of the Act, of an extension of the time to make a decision in respect of your request, by a further 4 working days - to 23 September 2022.

This extension is necessary because your request is for a large amount of information across multiple years, and meeting the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with our operations. We apologise for the delay and thank you for your patience. We will endeavour to provide the information sooner if possible.

If you are not satisfied with our extension of time, you have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.

Ngā mihi
Kelsey
