Legal Aid Mileage Payments
H Rogers made this Official Information request to Ministry of Justice
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for H Rogers to read recent responses and update the status.
From: H Rogers
Dear Ministry of Justice,
This request is made under the Official Information Act 1982.
I am a New Zealand Citizen.
The IRD now has a separate mileage rate for petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric cars.
The Legal Service Agency advised providers that from 1 July 2025 the petrol rate ($1.17) was to be used for all vehicles.
The rate for diesel cars is $1.26, the rates of hybrid and electric cars is less than $1.
Legal Aid are now unilaterally altering invoices using the diesel rate to reflect the petrol rate or simply refusing to pay the invoice unless the petrol rate is used.
Please provide the following:
The mileage rate policy for the Legal Services Agency stipulating that only the petrol rate is to be used for covering the mileage costs of legal aid providers from 1 July 2025.
A breakdown of the mileage payments by the Legal Services Agency since 1 July 2025 by motor vehicle type (petrol, diesel, hybrid, electric), the number of payments made and the total amount of those payments.
Yours faithfully,
H Rogers
