Dear Jack,

I’m writing with an update about your request.

We have interpreted your request to cover the period since the recent
discovery of asbestos in December 2024 through to the date of your
request. We have identified a significant quantity of information that is
in scope of this request – approximately 2000 pages of materials.

Due to the nature of the information we will need to consult a number of
external parties and this will require us to extend the timeframe for
responding. But before I do that I would like to discuss this with you, as
I believe there may be a way to expedite parts of this consultation and
therefore reduce the extension period. Could you please let me know a
contact number on which I can call you, or alternatively could you please
call me on 021899827 to discuss this further?

Many thanks,

James

Good morning Jack,

Further to my email to you on Thursday 12 June, I am writing to advise you
that it will not be possible to make a decision on your request within the
20 working day time limit required by LGOIMA. I am therefore notifying you
of an extension of the time to make our decision, to Friday 11 July.

This extension is necessary because consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably
be made within the original timeframe [s.14(1)(b) LGOIMA]. As communicated
to you last week we need to consult various external parties before making
a decision. I would still appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with
you as I believe there may be a way to reduce the amount of consultation
needed and therefore expedite this process.

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800802602.

James
