Subject: Official Information Request – Cannabis Plant Spraying (2020-2025)

Tēnā koutou,

I am writing to request information under the Official Information Act 1982.

Could you please provide the specific locations (including general area or region) where New Zealand Police have carried out aerial or ground-based spraying or eradication of cannabis plants and or other related plants from 2020-2025 to date?

Reason for request:
I am conducting research into the environmental and community impacts of chemical spraying in rural areas of New Zealand, particularly in relation to native bush, wildlife habitats, and proximity to rural residential land. Understanding where spraying has occurred will help inform discussions around land use and public safety, as well as support a project aimed at promoting transparency in environmental practices.

If any part of this request is too broad or would require substantial collation, I would be happy to refine it

Note that this request is part of a broader inquiry, and similar requests have also been sent to other relevant government departments and agencies.

From: DAVIES, Stephen
New Zealand Police

Good morning Lincoln,

Thank you for your OIA.

Detailed within your OIA under the heading reason for request, you have offered to refine the scope of the OIA.

Would you be able to either give me a call on the below phone number or refine the scope.

At present I would be unable to release much information to you other than generic Policing districts where spraying has occurred.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Stephen
