On behalf of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment I
acknowledge your request of 28 April 2024 sent to the Ministry of
Corrections requesting under the Official Information Act 1982, the
following:

 

I am requesting the following information under the Official Information
Act 1982:

 1. The number of asylum seekers currently imprisoned in New Zealand.
 2. The number of individuals who have been granted asylum (i.e.,
recognised as refugees or protected persons) who are currently
imprisoned in New Zealand.

 

 

Part 1 of your request has been transferred to the Ministry of Business,
Innovation and Employment from Ministry of Corrections on 21 May 2025 and
is being processed in accordance with the Official Information Act 1982. A
response will be sent to you in due course. 

 

We will endeavor to respond to your request as soon as possible, and no
later than 19 June 2025, being 20 working days after the day your request
was received. If we are unable to respond to your request by then, we will
notify you of an extension of that timeframe.  If you have any enquiries
