Dear Ministry of Health,
I am making a request under the Official Information Act 1982 for information related to the statement made by Health Minister Simeon Brown on 17 April 2025, in which he publicly stated that senior doctors receive an average total remuneration of $343,500.
1. All correspondence, briefings, memos, or reports sent by the Ministry of Health to the Minister or his office that refer to, inform, or support this $343,500 figure.
2. Any information held by the Ministry that explains:
How the figure was calculated, including relevant data sources
Whether it includes salary alone or also covers additional payments (e.g. allowances, CME, KiwiSaver, discretionary pay)
The methodology used to derive the average total remuneration per doctor.
3. Any internal communications within the Ministry discussing the accuracy, presentation, or use of this remuneration figure.
