Official Information request re: process of leasing to retail/food shops, the departure of Relax Lounge and G90, and satisfaction of food and retail at UOA

Please supply the following information under the [Official Information Act (OIA) / Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA)]:

1. I wish to receive documents from the University of Auckland outlining the guidelines, processes, and policies for leasing spaces to retail and food stores.

2. I also wish to receive confirmation as to whether the University of Auckland, or individuals or persons acting in the interest of the University of Auckland, entered into court, legal, or disputes tribunal proceedings against the owner/operator of Relax Lounge.

3. If (2) is answered in the affirmative, I wish to receive publications and decisions arising from said proceedings. I also wish to receive submissions made by individuals acting in the interest of the University submitted during these proceedings.

4. I wish to receive a list of 2025 rent prices for the following food/retail spaces rented out by the University of Auckland: 311-235, 315-441, 122-001, 311-237, 315-291D, 315-291C, 122-003, 311-225, 302-G90, 311-250, 311-252, 311-211, 311-209, and the space currently occupied by Conscious Eats.

5. I also wish to receive a list of the rent prices for the spaces listed in (4) for the years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

6. I wish to receive confirmation as to whether the University of Auckland conducts ‘satisfaction surveys’ of Food and Retail at the University of Auckland.

7. If (6) is answered in the affirmative, I wish to receive any data collected from said satisfaction surveys.

If you need any more information from me, please let me know as soon as possible.

I understand that a decision on a request for information under the [OIA/LGOIMA] should be made within 20 working days of receiving that request.

Dear Requestor,

 

I refer to your request of 15 March 2025.  We apologise for the delay in
our response.  The University’s response follows:

 

‘1.         I wish to receive documents from the University of Auckland
outlining the guidelines, processes, and policies for leasing spaces to
retail and food stores.’

This part of your request is refused under s 18(d), as the information
requested is publicly available at

 ‘2.           I also wish to receive confirmation as to whether the
University of Auckland, or individuals or persons acting in the interest
of the University of Auckland, entered court, legal, or disputes tribunal
proceedings against the owner/operator of Relax Lounge.’
The University is not aware of any legal proceedings or disputes tribunal
proceedings against the owner/operator of Relax Lounge.

 

‘3.           If (2) is answered in the affirmative, I wish to receive
publications and decisions arising from said proceedings. I also wish to
receive submissions made by individuals acting in the interest of the
University submitted during these proceedings.’

The following University spaces are not current or former retail sites:
122-001 and 122-003. These parts of your request are refused under section
18(f) of the OIA as the information requested cannot be provided without
substantial collation or research.

 

‘ 6.           I wish to receive confirmation as to whether the University
of Auckland conducts ‘satisfaction surveys’ of Food and Retail at the
University of Auckland.’
The University does not conduct official satisfaction surveys.  As part of
the retail trading agreement with the independent retail operator, the
University’s retail team is required to conduct an annual audit, which
includes Health & Safety, Food Safety Compliance and address any issues
that arises from customer satisfaction.

 

The University’s retail team actions any matters that arise from student
feedback as and when they occur, and also liaises with the Auckland
University Student’s Association (AUSA) on any matters or feedback that
they receive, and scan Reddit to ensure that any feedback relating to a
retailer on campus is addressed.

 

‘ 7.           If (6) is answered in the affirmative, I wish to receive
any data collected from said satisfaction surveys.’
