Re: Homegrown festival (File Ref: IRC-7811)
James Powell made this Official Information request to Wellington City Council
The request was successful.
From: James Powell
Dear Wellington City Council,
I write regarding my official information request dated 21 January 2025 (File Ref: IRC-7811), which received a reply on 14 February 2025.
I appreciate the information provided, however as per the third part of my request:
"Any internal communications between WCC officials, elected councillors and/or the Mayor regarding the decision by the organisers of Homegrown to no longer host the event in Wellington. This should include briefings, memos, aide memoirs or similar; emails; notes from meetings; text messages."
I am seeking to understand what WCC officials (including elected councillors, the Mayor, the Mayor's office or Council staff) knew about the decision to move the Homegrown festival out of Wellington, when they knew it, what inquiries or efforts they made to keep the festival in Wellington, and any other communications they may have had that are pertinent to this issue.
If there were no communications, briefings or meetings by any WCC officials (as defined above) regarding the decision to no longer hold the Homegrown festival in Wellington then I would appreciate having this confirmed.
I am happy to restrict the date range to 01 October 2024 to 19 February 2025.
Yours faithfully,
James Powell

Wellington City Council had no sway in the decision made by the organisers of Homegrown to no longer hold the event in Wellington. No persons within the Council, nor the Councillors, had any previous knowledge of the decision, as all conversations were had between WellingtonNZ and the organisers directly. The first update regarding the decision was contained in Appendix 01 of my previous response.
I hope this clarifies the matter for you.
Nga mihi
