We have received your request below and note that you have also been in
touch with our customer service team to check that you will be receiving a
response within the 20 working day statutory timeframe (Monday 11
November).
We are unable to locate all communications with any person at any
department of Stuff without you providing further clarification to
identify the scope of the request. For example, it is likely to be highly
time-consuming and difficult to identify all “text messages or hard copy
exchanges” from any person at UHCC to an organisation the size of Stuff
without being able to identify what phone number is being searched for, or
who the recipient is.
Such a request is likely to require substantial collation and research,
which as you know is a ground to withhold information under the Act or
impose a charge.
It appears that you might be interested in communications relating to the
[1]Upper Hutt: from bogans to Wellington's best buy story that appeared on
6 October 2024 with Annemarie Quill’s byline.
To reduce the level of collation and research required, can we clarify the
scope of your request down to any communications (emails, text messges,
hard copy exchanges) with Annemarie Quill relating to for the period 1
September 2024 – 11 October 2024.
We look forward to hearing from you further.

As you know, the Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your
request no later than 20 working days after the day we received your
request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit
and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to
make our decision, to 2 December 2024.
This extension is necessary because your request necessitates a search
through a large quantity of information and meeting the original time
limit would unreasonably interfere with our operations.
In coming to this decision we have assumed that you agree to the scope of
the request being limited as set out below. If you do not, please advise.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
