Dear New Zealand Transport Agency,

Residents of National Park Waimarino have advised the council of issues displaying the 50kmh speed limit along Findlay Street in the village. This relates to the placement of the 50kmh sign close to the intersection of SH4 and Findlay Street which can not easily been seen by vehicles turning left off SH4. There is also no signage at the other end of Findlay St to remind visitor traffic of the 50kmh speed limit as it departs the Park'n'Ride.

As a result, traffic often exceeds the 50kmh speed limit creating a hazard for other road users and pedestrians.

Residents have requested that the sign on Findlay St neat SH4 be moved or duplicated slightly along Findlay St so that it is visible to drivers once they have completed their turn off SH4; and additional 50kmh signage at the other end of Findlay St to remind drivers from that end of the 50kmh speed limit.

Ruapehu District Council has stated that Waka Kotahi regulations relating to the placement of speed limit signage prevent it relocating or duplicating the 50kmh sign at the SH4 end of Findlay St, or placing 50kmh signage at the other end of Findlay St by the Park'n'Ride.

Please provide details of correspondence relating to this issue between Ruapehu District Council and Waka Kotahi; and details of the regulatory obstacles to placing further 50kmh signs along Findlay St.
