Access to carer support

Michelle made this Official Information request to Matt Doocey

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Michelle to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Michelle

Dear Matt Doocey,

Please provide documentation of the ‘careful review’ that was carried out regarding families access to carer support. As referenced in the below article link.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/top/528505/12...

There is a condition not mentioned in the article that families must have a young person in treatment with CAMHS in order to be eligible for carer support. Once treatment has ceased they will no longer be eligible.

Please advise the average treatment time of clients receiving treatment from CAMHS - does the ministry for health think that only families receiving current treatment deserve respite?

Please advise for the period August 2023 to August 2024
- how many requests from families for support were declined either at the referral stage or at the follow up ‘choice appointment’
- how many requests were accepted

Why are carers of children who have ADHD and co-occurring mental health conditions required to have a community services card to be eligible for carer support yet carers of children with Autism do not have to hold a community services card?

Yours faithfully,
Michelle
