Information about dog control matters needed for dog control review

Dear Dunedin City Council,

1) On 7 June 2024 you were requested to provide the qualifications of those advising Councillors and authoring the documentation in relation to the review of the dog control policy and bylaw, including the qualifications of consultants or external advisors.

On 8 July 2024 you extended the time to decide this request to complete consultation. On 16 July the information was refused claiming staff absences. It is not believable staff will still be on leave, therefore please provide the requested information now.

2) In meeting 6 August 2024 Cr Weatherall asked for more information about the dog attacks being reported in that meeting. He was informed more information was available, and information would be emailed to him. Please provide the information being referred to, including the information subsequently emailed to Cr Weatherall.

The information requested is relevant to the review currently being undertaken. Therefore please provide it with urgency.

I refer to your e-mail of 26 August 2024 requesting information regarding
the review of the Dog Control Bylaw.  Our response is provided below your
questions.

 

1) On 7 June 2024 you were requested to provide the qualifications of
those advising Councillors and authoring the documentation in relation to
the review of the dog control policy and bylaw, including the
qualifications of consultants or external advisors.

On 8 July 2024 you extended the time to decide this request to complete
consultation. On 16 July the information was refused claiming staff
absences. It is not believable staff will still be on leave, therefore
please provide the requested information now.

 

As advised to the person who requested this information originally, we
have been unable to consult with the staff members concerned, and we are
still unable to consult with them. One is no longer employed by the
Council and the other is on extended leave.  We are therefore declining to
provide this information for these staff members pursuant to Section
7(2)(a) of LGOIMA to protect the privacy of individuals. 

2) In meeting 6 August 2024 Cr Weatherall asked for more information about
the dog attacks being reported in that meeting. He was informed more
information was available, and information would be emailed to him. Please
provide the information being referred to, including the information
subsequently emailed to Cr Weatherall.

 

Please find below a link to the Customer and Regulatory Committee Agenda
for the meeting held on 6 August 2024.  Included in the agenda on page 28
is a Trends and Issues Report that shows a graph on dog attacks.  Please
also find attached additional information on Dog Attacks.
