Does applying for multiple scholarships hurt your chances?

Ben Li made this Official Information request to University of Auckland

The request was successful.

From: Ben Li

Dear University of Auckland,

Does applying for multiple school leaver scholarships hurt your chances at getting one specifically? I am hearing that applying for Top Achievers and Academic Potential lowers then chance of receiving Top Achievers than applying for Top Achievers only.

Yours faithfully,

Ben Li

Dear Ben,

I refer to your email of 10 August 2024. Routine queries can be made directly to the relevant area of the University rather than submitted as OIA requests.

"Does applying for multiple school leaver scholarships hurt your chances at getting one specifically?"

No. The Scholarships Office strongly encourages students to apply for every scholarship for which they meet the regulations and eligibility clauses. The Scholarships Office advise that applicants will find that they will have access to a tick box where they can indicate if they would like to apply for more than one scholarship and applying for multiple scholarships will certainly not be viewed as detrimental to the outcome.

Yours sincerely,
