Dear Department of Corrections,
I would like to request a list of all items of personal property that have been approved for prisoners in NZ prisons (ie, all property such as Radios, Books etc). A general description is fine.
If this cannot be fulfilled, please provide a list of personal property items that have been allowed in Rolleston Prison low security units.
Yours faithfully,
JB

Kia ora JB,
Our prison property policy is publicly available here - https://www.corrections.govt.nz/resource...
Under section 45A of the Corrections Act 2004, the Chief Executive can authorised items of property that prisoners may be issued with or allowed to keep subject to the conditions imposed in these rules. If a prisoner wishes to have property that is not listed here, they will need to seek an exemption from the Prison Director.
The authorised prison property rules are publicly available here - https://www.corrections.govt.nz/__data/a...
Therefore, your request is refused in accordance with section 18(d) of the OIA as the information requested is publicly available.
I hope this information is helpful. I encourage you to raise any concerns about this response with Corrections. Alternatively, you are advised of your right to raise any concerns with the Office of the Ombudsman. Contact details are: Office of the Ombudsman, PO Box 10152, Wellington 6143.
Ngā mihi | Kind regards,

Kia ora JB,
Thank you for your email. Please clarify if there is a specific timeframe and or prisons you wish to request about.
As your request currently stands, it is most likely to be refused in accordance under section 18(f) of the OIA as it would require substantial collation. In order to reduce the scope of your request, we are inviting you to refine it.

David

Dear Info@Corrections,
Just rolleston prison would be adequate, and if this is too substantial, just to low security prisoners in Rolleston.
Yours sincerely,
JB

Department of Corrections
Kia ora JB,
Thank you for your email.
Rolleston Prison have confirmed that there is no centrally recorded list of granted property exceptions. These are recorded on the individual's file. Therefore, your request is refused in accordance with section 18(f) of the OIA, as the information cannot be made available without substantial collation or research. As per Section 18B we have considered whether consulting with you would enable the request to be made in a form that would remove the reason for the refusal. However, we do not consider that the request can be refined in this instance.
I trust the information provided is of assistance. I encourage you to raise any concerns about this response with Corrections. Alternatively, you are advised of your right to also raise any concerns with the Office of the Ombudsman. Contact details are: Office of the Ombudsman, PO Box 10152, Wellington 6143.
Ngā mihi | Kind regards,
David
