I refer to your correspondence of 2 May 2024 requesting the following
under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA):

all advice provided to government agencies and Ministers since 1 August
2023 on the administration, liquidation or receivership of RAL including
but not limited to, for example the concession process for Turoa and all
related matters for example the use of the Turoa name, the impact on the
Whanganui Iwi.

The purpose of this email is to clarify and refine your request under
section 15(1AA) and 18B of the OIA. Your request as currently framed is
very broad and will require searching through a significant volume of
information to locate documents in scope. Te Arawhiti has been in regular
contact with other agencies about Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL) and related
matters since June 2023. Responding to your request as it currently stands
would require substantial collation and research and as a result the
request is likely to be declined under s18(f) of the OIA if it is not
amended. As such, we are seeking your agreement to limit your request to
be for:

Formal advice provided by Te Arawhiti to Ministers since 1 August 2023
relating to Ruapehu Alpine Lifts and all related matters.

Refining your request in this way will capture Te Arawhiti’s key updates
on matters relating to Ruapehu Alpine Lifts and related processes, while
mitigating the significant volume of documents otherwise captured by your
original request.

Please note that, under section 15(1AA) of the OIA, any clarification or
amendment of your request will be considered a new request for the purpose
of calculating the maximum statutory timeframe for our response.

Ngā mihi

Ian

Kia ora Stephen

Thanks for coming back to me so quickly - we have reviewed your proposed clarification but it does not reduce the scope of your original request.

Are you available to discuss on either Tuesday 21 May or Wednesday 22 May?

I would be particularly interested to understand what you mean by "advice" in relation to other agencies.

The scope is very different in scale depending on whether you are seeking formal Te Arawhiti advice (e.g. when Te Arawhiti has been asked to comment on other agencies letters or briefings) or whether you are seeking email exchanges between Te Arawhiti and the other named agencies.

Please note that, under section 15(1AA) of the OIA, any clarification or amendment of your request will be considered a new request for the purpose of calculating the maximum statutory timeframe for our response.
