Accompanying an officer
James made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
The request was successful.
From: James
Dear New Zealand Police,
Under the OIA I would like to request the following information.
Since November 1st 2017 until March 1st 2024 how many people if any, have refused to accompany a police officer before they have sought legal advice?
Under current Police legislation and policy are you able to refuse to accompany an officer when requested until you have sought legal advice? If yes, in what circumstances?
Between November 1st 2017 and March 1st 2024 have any cases/action been taken against the Police for refusing access to a lawyer/legal advice before accompanying a Police officer?
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
James
