N. S. Hudson made this Official Information request to Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand

Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand did not have the information requested.

From: N. S. Hudson

Dear Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand,

I am writing to submit a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for access to flight data recorded by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) radar systems on 31st December 2023 between the hours of 3:45 AM and 4:15 AM GMT.

Specifically, I am seeking all available flight data, including both known and unidentified flights, including possible unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) and/or uncorrelated tracks (UCT), that were detected by CAA radar systems within the airspace of the east coast of the North Island, and out to sea off the same coast, as far as radar tracks. This request encompasses any aerial objects or phenomena observed within the specified airspace, regardless of their origin, nature, or flight characteristics.

To ensure completeness and accuracy, I kindly request the following details for each detected flight or observed aerial phenomena:

Identification or description of the object, if available.
Time and date of detection.
Characteristics or features observed.
Any recorded flight trajectory, if ascertainable.
Any additional relevant information recorded by CAA radar systems during the specified time frame.
Furthermore, I request access to any complaints, incident reports, or notifications submitted by airlines or other relevant entities regarding aerial activity or anomalies observed within the specified airspace during the same time frame. This includes reports made by entities with access to radar equipment within the specified airspace.

Please note that I am requesting data on both known flights, unidentified aerial phenomena, and any related complaints or incident reports to comprehensively understand all aerial activity and associated observations within the specified airspace and time window.

If any part of this request falls outside the scope of the Freedom of Information Act, I would appreciate your guidance on how to refine the request accordingly. Additionally, if there are any fees associated with processing this request, please inform me in advance.

I understand that you are required to respond to this request within 20 working days, as stipulated by the Freedom of Information Act. I would prefer to receive the information electronically, preferably in a machine-readable format such as CSV or Excel.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

Yours faithfully,

N. S. Hudson
