Cody C made this Official Information request to Christchurch City Council
The request was successful.
From: Cody C
Dear Christchurch City Council,
Is there any work underway, or planned, to incorporate fire zone overlays in District Plan and / or Property Files? This information would operate similarly to flood & coastal hazard zones.
Yours faithfully,
Cody C

From: Official Information
Christchurch City Council
Kia Ora Cody,
On 18 March 2024, you requested the following information, under the Local
Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA):
Is there any work underway, or planned, to incorporate fire zone overlays
in District Plan and / or Property Files? This information would operate
similarly to flood & coastal hazard zones.
Staff have confirmed that no work regarding the creation of fire zoning
has been considered or started under the 2024 Port Hills Fire recovery
process, or any other stream of work arising from the Fire. Likewise, no
work regarding the creation of fire zoning has been considered or started
within any of the planning teams within Christchurch City Council.
Staff have commented further that if Fire zone overlays were to be
included into our smart map system, these would pull it through onto a
Land Information Memorandum (LIM). However, even if they did exist, they
would not normally be included in a property file.
Considering the above, we have decided to refuse your request under the
following section of the LGOIMA:
o 17(e) – the information requested does not exist or cannot be found.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review our
decision. Complaints can be sent by email to
[1][email address].
Publication of responses to LGOIMA requests
Please note: our LGOIMA responses may be published on the Christchurch
City Council website a month after they have been responded to, with
requesters’ personal details withheld. If you have any concerns about
this, please contact the Official Information team on
[2][Christchurch City Council request email].
Yours sincerely,
