Inquiry into New Zealand's Response and Understanding of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena

Lee Jared made this Official Information request to Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Lee Jared to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Lee Jared

Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet,

I hope this letter finds you well.

With the global attention on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) following recent disclosures and discussions in the United States, including hearings and reports to Congress, there's a growing public interest in understanding how nations are addressing these occurrences. As such, I am writing to request information under the Official Information Act 1982 concerning New Zealand's stance, understanding, and any action taken regarding UAPs. This request aims to uncover insights into discussions, briefings, and any directives within the national security and intelligence community under the purview of the DPMC.

Specifically, I am interested in the following:

1. Briefings and Discussions:

Records of any briefings, memos, or discussions held within the DPMC regarding UAPs from January 2010 to the present. This includes any meetings with or reports from the New Zealand Defence Force, intelligence agencies, or other government departments related to UAP sightings, investigations, or policy implications.
Guidance and Directives:

2. Copies of any guidance, directives, or policy documents issued by or to the DPMC concerning the reporting, investigation, or public communication of UAP incidents. This encompasses any inter-agency collaboration guidelines involving UAP-related information sharing.
International Communications:

3. Details on New Zealand's engagement in international dialogues regarding UAPs, including communications with the United States or other allies, and New Zealand's contributions to or participation in international forums addressing UAP security implications.
Research and Analysis:

4. Information on any research or analysis commissioned or conducted by the DPMC, or in collaboration with other government entities, focused on UAP sightings, technologies, or phenomena.

Understanding the sensitivity and security implications of the requested information, I am open to receiving redacted documents where necessary. Should any part of this request be better directed to another agency, I kindly ask for guidance or referral to ensure comprehensive coverage of this important topic.

Thank you for considering this request. Your efforts in facilitating transparency and understanding in matters of national and international interest are greatly appreciated. I look forward to your response within the statutory timeframe and am available for any necessary clarifications.

Sincerely.
