Dear Erika Whittome,

Our response to your request for information on 8 May 2024 included all information held by the New Zealand Film Commission within the scope of your request. The information included in the response was carefully considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) and certain information was withheld under the following grounds of the OIA:

Section 9(2)(a): to protect the privacy of natural persons.
Section 9(2)(b)(ii): to protect information where the making available of that information would be likely unreasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplied or who is the subject of the information.
Section 9(2)(ba): to protect information that is subject to an obligation of confidence where making the information available would be likely to prejudice the supply of similar information and it is in the public interest that such information should continue to be supplied.
Section 9(2)(g): to maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the free and frank expression of opinions.
Section 9(2)(h): to maintain legal professional privilege.

I have re-attached the Appendix with the withholding grounds listed next to each redaction, so you are aware on what grounds each section has been withheld.

Please be aware that you have the right, by way of complaint to an Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the OIA to seek an investigation and review of our response.

Dear Tayla Hancock,
I have made a complaint to the Ombudsman for the information not being released.
The $800k figure was already covered in the press.

Pages and pages of redacted emails and large black rectangles is very draining on my printer ink, not to mention denying the release of information of what our government is up to.
The case of ‘Kelsey v Minister of Trade Relations’ comes to mind https://nz.vlex.com/vid/kelsey-v-the-min...

Yours sincerely,

Erika Whittome
