Dear D Maclure

As you may be aware, the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) is a crown
entity established by the New Zealand Film Commission Act 1978 which works
to grow the New Zealand film industry. We invest in feature films, short
films, script and career development and marketing and promoting New
Zealand films and filmmakers both here and overseas.

While we are involved to varying degrees with many films made here, the
fact that a film is made in New Zealand does not necessarily mean we have
had any involvement with it. For this reason alone, some of the films
mentioned in your email are ones we have no knowledge of or involvement
with. Despite this, we have done our best to provide you with some
information on them as follows.

o Untitled Charles Upham biopic – we understand that the development of
this project has been privately financed to date, and the NZFC may
become involved at a later date should they apply to us for support.
o ‘Wild Horses’ – this project was made in 1984 and further information
about it can be found on our website at the following link
([1]http://www.nzfilm.co.nz/film/wild-horses). It is also available to
be bought or streamed online on our video on demand platform, NZ Film
On Demand, at the following link
([2]https://ondemand.nzfilm.co.nz/#!/browse/...).
o ‘Zilch’ – this project was released in 1989 and information on this
film can be found online at NZ On Screen via the following link
([3]https://www.nzonscreen.com/title/zilch-1...).
o ‘Blackspot’, ‘The Dambusters’ remake done by Sir Peter Jackson,
‘Syrenia’, ‘Dead Kids’ / ‘Strange Behaviour’ / ‘Shadowland’ – the NZFC
has no record of these projects and we have not had any involvement
with these projects.
o ‘Soldiers Boys’ and ‘The Seal Hunters’ – the NZFC has no record of
these projects and, as you note they date back to the 1960s/70s,
before the NZFC was established as a crown entity.

Please be aware that you have the right, by way of complaint to an
Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act 1982, to
seek an investigation and review of our response.

Yours sincerely
