Dear Television New Zealand Limited,

Official Information Act Request.

Recently you had a nutritionist on who is paid off and employed by fonterra ane the milk industry. She proceed to claim that you can't get vitamins from oat milk and that you should drink dairy by selecting favourable studies paid for by the dairy industry. There was no indication of her clear conflicts of interest the interview. And she made it seem that you couldn't get the nutrients you need from a vegan diet. The interview also didn't touch on the animal welfare issues of killing bobby cows or the exploitation of female cows reproduction systems. Did TV NZ receive funding from industry for this interview, and if so how much. Does TVNZ receive funding from Fonterra and if so how much. What standards does TVNZ have in place to advise the public of so of its so call informative interviews and their interviewees conflicts of interest. Why was their no disclaimer on the show with regards to the claims she was making.

Yours faithfully,

Adam

Dear TVNZ,

Follow up OIA

Why wasn't her conflicts of interest and employment status declared on the TV show?

How did TVNZ decide on that topic to be discussed? Did it just by accident decide to put out pro milk industry proproganda and challenge the international consensus on health and the environment, while running down oat milk and not even mentioning animal welfare out of the complete blue?

If Fonterra is paying for advertising then how can TVNZ maintain its independence and journalists integrity if it is trying to maintain positive relationships with industry that's paying to run commercials?

How were the questions and topic formulated and how was this subject choosen? Who pare reviews these questions and what is the guidance given, if there is an advertising account and employee being interviewed then do account managers make sure the interviewers ask patsy questions? Who determines the scope of the interview questions, why is animal welfare never covered? It's clear most consumers don't like and aren't necessarily aware of the killing of bobby cows, that results from milk production.

"Nikki Hart’s role as an industry professional and nutritional adviser to Fonterra is
disclosed in the online article containing the interview on the 1news.co.nz site:
https://www.1news.co.nz/2024/02/09/is-oa...
convinced/. The information Nikki Hart discussed in this interview was based on global
research and her professional knowledge as a nutritionist." International studies don't prove the validity of a subject, that study referenced in the article states "its a perspective". There are equally studies from climate change deniers and fringe achedmics paid off by oil and gas industry to challenge climate changes scientific concensus. Food companies pay industry "nutritionist" and fringe food scientists to create doubt on the negative health impacts of animal fats. The subject isn't as black and white as you make out and has been corrupted by big money from industry. With you just presenting industry's veiw of the topic. It's hard to say this out of the blue interview isn't driven by financial interests, be they existing or TVNZ's hope of securing more advertising from presenting favourable content on behalf of industry pro bono.

Yours sincerely,

Adam Irish
