Engine Braking rules and enforcement
Adam Parkinson made this Official Information request to New Zealand Transport Agency
The request was partially successful.
      From: Adam Parkinson

    Kia Ora Waka Kotahi,
What are the rules and regs around vehicle engine braking in the Auckland City centre.
We have multiple complaints around this practice in Aotearoa's most highly residential areas - Beach Road, The Strand, Quay Street, Anzac Ave, Symonds Street. The over dimension trucks can be particularly noisy and often journeys at night time.
What are the rules how are they enforced?
Have any infringements been issued And please provide data on any infringements issued.
There was a trial on cameras https://www.nzta.govt.nz/commercial-driv...
Can you advise on the results of this and what has been implemented in the city centre as a result.
Ngā mihi,
Adam Parkinson

The part of your request about engine braking was transferred to Auckland
Council by Auckland Transport, who had, in turn, received it from Waka
Kotahi (NZTA). We have discussed your request with our Regulatory
Enforcement Team, who have confirmed that Auckland Council does not deal
with complaints about engine braking. As both AT and NZTA also do not hold
this information, perhaps the next agency to try is the New Zealand
Police. Would you like us to transfer your request to them? Or would you
prefer to contact them directly yourself?
