Request for Update of New Zealand Police Oath Information - IR-01-22-23617

Lance D. Lavery made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

The request was successful.

From: Lance D. Lavery

Dear New Zealand Police,

I write to request updated information regarding the New Zealand Police Oath, as referenced in IR-01-22-23617, in compliance with the Official Information Act 1982. The ascension of King Charles III following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022 necessitates an update to our official documents to reflect the current monarch accurately.

In reviewing the document with reference number IR-01-22-23617, originally issued for another request, I noted that both the Police Oath and the Police Affirmation refer to 'Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth of New Zealand', missing the "II" after "Queen Elizabeth." In view of the change in the monarchy, I suggest updating these references to 'His Majesty King Charles III' to ensure they remain accurate. Furthermore, I would appreciate if you could verify the incorporation of this update in the legislation overseeing the New Zealand Police.

As a citizen of New Zealand, I meet the legislative requirements to make this request. Please direct all responses to this inquiry through FYI.org.nz webserver, in accordance with the standard procedures for Official Information Act requests. I am aware of the right, under the Official Information Act, to have my request processed without needing to fill out any additional forms or provide further personal details through other channels.

Your attention to this request is highly valued, and I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

Lance D. Lavery
