Results for the Scholarship Chemistry Exam by gender.
Megan Pledger made this Official Information request to New Zealand Qualifications Authority
The request was successful.
From: Megan Pledger
Dear New Zealand Qualifications Authority,
Could you please tell me the number of students applying to sit the Chemistry Scholarship Exam, the number of students who actually sat that exam and the average score of the students who sat that exam and the variance of those scores. Can you do this for all students and separately for males and females and for all years over the last 15 years including 2014 e.g.
A table similar to this but expanded further by year.
...................................... | 2014 | 2013 | 2012 |
ALL
....Number applying
....Number sitting
....Average score
of those sitting
....Variance of the
scores of those sitting
...................................... | 2014 | 2013 | 2012 |
MALES
....Number applying
....Number sitting
....Average score
of those sitting
....Variance of the
scores of those sitting
...................................... | 2014 | 2013 | 2012 |
FEMALES
....Number applying
....Number sitting
....Average score
of those sitting
....Variance of the
scores of those sitting
Also, I would like to know if it is possible for students to apply to sit this exam, enter the exam room, read the exam and leave without handing in any material for marking. If so can I have these numbers broken down by sex for the last 15 years including 2014. Are these walk outs included in the data as zero scores or not included in the data?
Thank you for your help.
Yours faithfully,
Megan Pledger

This data was sent to me at a private e-mail address as I had been
discussing back and forth with NZQA about how the data should be
presented.
In the end they gave it to me in OE, E, NA etc format rather than
means/variances as I had requested. I have seen students recounting
their results in terms of percentages so it seems it ought to be
possible to provide it to me as I had asked.
As the information they sent me contained personal information and
contact details of the people I had been corresponding with I have
just uploaded the explanatory paragraph and the actual tables of data.
