Scholarship Chemistry mark allocation, 2023 & 2024

Nina Graham made this Official Information request to New Zealand Qualifications Authority

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Nina Graham to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Nina Graham

Dear New Zealand Qualifications Authority,

I would like to obtain information about exactly how marks were allocated in the 2023 and 2024 Scholarship Chemistry examinations.

The 2023 Scholarship Chemistry assessment schedule does not show any mark allocation information. It uses highly vague phrases such as "a range of the following" to describe the requirements for Scholarship question scores (5-6) and Outstanding Scholarship question scores (7-8). I would like to see what exactly guidance was available to markers with respect to the following in 2023:
• what distinguishes a question score of 5 vs 6, and similarly what distinguishes a question score of 7 vs 8
• what exactly constitutes "a range of the following" for Scholarship and Outstanding Scholarship answer criteria (e.g., does this mean 2 out of 3 bulletpointed criteria for each column in the assessment schedule are required, or does this vary per question?)

I would also like to see similar mark allocation information for the 2024 Scholarship Chemistry examination.

Yours faithfully,

Nina Graham
