I refer to your request for:

Please provide a copy of the Risk Assessment for the Alpine Fault and the

specific city risk assessment.

Therefore we have decided to refuse your request under the following

the local authority.

Any questions regarding localised/regional defence issues (including the

Wow. So Christchurch City Council has no "risk assessment" for a city (and quite frankly the bulk of the S.I.) where it is currently expected that we will have an alpine fault event within only a few years.

Greymouth District Council seem decades ahead of these guys...

CCC were able to fulfil my request.
This is surprising when you consider we are the South Island's major city. CCC have no Health and Safety Risk Assessment for the major risk event of the Alpine Faultline which is overdue to rupture in what is expected to be a major earthquake lasting over 4 minutes. It is predicted to be at least an 8 possibly a 9 magnitude quake. It will impact not only Christchurch City but the whole island dramatically.

Dear Official Information,

I ask again for the Risk Assessment for the Alpine Faultline. At the long-term plan hearing I was assured that the CCC does have one.

Yours sincerely,

Kia ora T Dobbie,

Thank you for your request for information. We are handling your request
under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987
(LGOIMA).

We have forwarded it to the appropriate Christchurch City Council staff,
and we will provide a response or update within 20 working days of the
date we received your request. If we are unable to respond to your request
by then, we will notify you of an extension of that timeframe.

In order to make sure that we are following every lead, could you please
confirm which LTP hearing day this confirmation occurred, and which
elected member or staff member you were assured by about the assessments
existence? This may help us in our search, especially if it’s an external
assessment that’s come in to a part of council that we wouldn’t logically
think to check.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me. If any additional
factors come to light which are relevant to your request, please do not
hesitate to contact me so that these can be taken into account.

If you have not had a reply within 10 working days, please email

Dear Official Information,

Thank you for that document. It is not a Risk Assessment for the Alpine Fault. The information within it is very limited around the risks of the Alpine Fault on Christchurch City.

The councillors at the LTP hearing assured me and the public that there is a Risk Assessment.

Please provide me a copy.

Yours sincerely,

T Dobbie

Kia ora Dobbie,

I've discussed with relevant staff, and looked through our systems and a
more specific risk assessment does not exist. The risk assessment that
they were referring to was the one sent through.

Thank you,

Dear Official Information,

Thank you, I note that there were two versions of the AF8 report attached to the message. One dated August 2018 and another version June 2021.

The June 2021 does include risk information and is more of what I was after. I believe that CCC needs to have their own documentation to show that they actually do understand the threat that the Alpine Fault places on our city. In light of what we went through in 2010/2011 that seems logical to me.

Yours sincerely,

T Dobbie
