Dear University of Otago,

I am seeking information as to wether or not the school I attended is considered rural for puposes of entry into health science proffesional programmes 2025. The school I attended was Whitikahu School, 763 Whitikahu Road, which I attended from 2011-2018.

Yours faithfully,
Brooke

From: Brooke

Dear UoO - Official Information Act, thank you for this information. As you cannot assess whether Whitikahu School, 763 Whitikahu Road is eligible for rural entry into MB ChB in 2025, can you determine whether it would have been considered rural for rural entry into 2022 or 2023 MB ChB? As the rural eligibility criteria has already been put in place for those years.

Yours sincerely,

Brooke

Tēnā koe Brooke

I refer to your information request dated 19 November 2023 made under the Official Information Act 1982. You have requested confirmation of whether Whitikahu School was considered rural for the purposes of entry to the 2022 and 2023 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) programmes via the Rural Origins sub-category.

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the date your request was received (by 15 December 2023). Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit. We are therefore writing to notify you, pursuant to section 15A of the Act, of an extension of the time to make our decision in respect of your request, by a further 4 working days - to 21 December 2023.

This extension is necessary to allow for consultations necessary to make a decision on your request. We apologise for the delay and thank you for your patience. We will endeavour to provide the information sooner if possible.

If you are not satisfied with our extension of time, you have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.

Ngā mihi
Kelsey
