Cost to run Parliament

Liam made this Official Information request to Parliamentary Service

The request was successful.

From: Liam

Dear Parliamentary Service,

I understand that the Service is not covered under the OIA 1982,
found under s2(1). However, it is my hope that you will still be
able to provide the below information as you have done so in the
past in both my personal and public requests. The Service is held
in high regard amongst those who use this site for co-operating in
requests for information, promptly.

1. I have read that it costs upwards of $200 per minute to run the full Parliament in the media in recent years. I have, however, been unable to locate such information again. Do you have any reports or articles that breakdown the cost to run Parliament, either by the day, hour or minute and how that was calculated.

2. I would also be interested in what this cost encompasses. For example, when the Parliament is in Committee, does it only use the salaries of those Members in the Parliament or all 121 Members?

Yours faithfully,

Liam Stoneley
