Whakatane Airport financial and operational budgets

A Broxholme made this Official Information request to Whakatane District Council

The request was successful.

From: A Broxholme

Dear Whakatane District Council,

Council is engaged in a process, with little or no consultation with affected individuals or organisations to reintroduce and significantly increase costs to operate from and fly into and out of Whakatane airport which is owned by council in a partnership with central government. Is it correct that council owns 50% of the airport and bears 50% of any costs of what is likely not a profitable operation for the council?

I seek to know the annual costs and full operating costs born by Whakatane District council / central government over the past three years so as to better understand exactly what it costs the council and ratepayers to operate the airport and where current revenue comes from.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Broxholme
