MP's qualifications, including current Lawyers in the Parliament.

The request was successful.

Dear Parliamentary Service,
I understand that the Service is not covered under the OIA 1982, found under s2(1). However, it is my hope that you will still be able to provide the below information as you have done so in the past in both my personal and public requests. The Service is held in high regard amongst those who use this site for co-operating in requests for information, promptly.
Could you please provide information on;
1. All qualifications of MP's in the current Parliament. In particular, I would like to know any subjects that MP's studied in/majored in for their degrees. For example, for the Member for Wigram, she holds a PhD, but I would like to know what that PhD is in (I know it's for history, but this is an example of the detail needed, if held).
2. How many current MP's hold an LLB.
3. How many current MP's hold a current practising certificate from the Law Society. I acknowledge that you have answered this question before in the below request but since there is a new Parliament, I would request an updated copy.
https://fyi.org.nz/request/how_many_mps_...
Thank you in advance for your help. It is much appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
Liam Stoneley

Good afternoon Liam,
The Parliamentary Information Service (PIS) only has access to publicly available information, and as such, can't provide a definitive answer.
However, we do have (though it is still being updated) a list of qualifications that the PIS have been able to identify through the media. This includes references to education made in in Maiden speeches, or through MP's party biography pages (links to which are available here: http://www.parliament.nz/en-nz/mpp/mps/c...). As you are probably aware, a qualification is not required for an individual to be a candidate in an election (1.2 Candidate eligibility: http://www.elections.org.nz/becoming-can...) and potentially become an MP - which is probably why qualifications are not disclosed on the Current MPs pages on the Parliament website.
Please find attached the most up-to-date data that we have been able to compile/update since you made this request.
