Christchurch Airport tenants - nature, number, space occupied
Sasha Holden made this Official Information request to Christchurch International Airport Limited
The request was partially successful.
From: Sasha Holden
Dear Christchurch International Airport Limited,
I would like a list of the business name, business type and floor space (square meters occupied) of all tenants, licensees or similar of Christchurch Airport, both within the terminal and on any land owned or managed by Christchurch Airport, near the airport itself or elsewhere. If you need to redact the names of businesses for commercial reasons, please do so, but please explain why this would be an issue. This request holds for those who are tenants in the legal sense, OR occupy space at Christchurch Airport under some other arrangement or legal structure.
Please also supply the total remaining floor space held by Christchurch Airport for the company’s own use (ie not tenants) both AT the airport, and then separately all other land owned or controlled by Christchurch Airport.
Yours faithfully,
Sasha Holden

Dear CIAL Legal Team,
I don't consider this OIA request to be answered sufficiently. As I said in my letter to you a month ago today, "if you need to redact the names of businesses for commercial reasons, please do so, but please explain why this would be an issue".
I understand that you won't release business names, but there is no justification (because of "commercial sensitivity") for not releasing the other information I have asked for, for all tenants, licensees or similar of CIAL. To be clear I am asking for business type and square meters occupied, of each tenant. You can redact the identity of the tenant - that's no problem.
If you feel that tenant type is also commercially sensitive (which I would dispute, strongly), then just location (eg main terminal, CHC airport campus, Tarras etc) and square meterage per tenant is fine. But there is no commercial sensitivity in these details (people can see the businesses with their own eyes if they walk around your properties).
The lion's share of this OIA request is therefore unanswered. This is not a new request - it's the existing one. Please answer my question, as you are obliged to do under the Official Information Act.
I am also quite concerned that you have waited 20 working days to effectively come back and say "no" to the first part of my request.
Thank you in advance.
Yours sincerely,
Sasha Holden
