From: Liam Hehir

Dear Health New Zealand,

I write under the Official Information Act 1982 to request information regarding the recent issue involving National MP Dr. Shane Reti, the Order of St John (St John) and any involvement of Health Minister Dr. Ayesha Verrall.

Specifically, I am interested in:

1.Any and all correspondence (including but not limited to emails, letters, memos, text messages) between Te Whatu Ora and Dr. Ayesha Verrall or her office in relation to Dr. Shane Reti’s involvement with St John on night-time emergencies.

2. Any internal communications within Te Whatu Ora discussing Dr. Ayesha Verrall’s response or views on this matter.

3. Any guidance, directives, or policies provided by Dr. Ayesha Verrall or her office in relation to how such matters should be handled.

4. Details of any meetings or discussions held between Dr. Ayesha Verrall or her office and Te Whatu Ora regarding this issue.

5. Copies of correspondence sent by Te Whatu Ora to St. John in the last fortnight.

6. Any other correspondence sent relating to St John in the last fortnight.

I understand that Te Whatu Ora may need to redact certain information from the documents for reasons of privacy.

If my request is too broad or requires a large amount of collation and research, I would be happy to discuss how I might refine my request.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to receiving your response as soon as reasonably practicable and within the statutory time frame of 20 working days.

Yours faithfully,

Liam Hehir

This email is to let you know that Te Whatu Ora needs more time to make a
decision on your request.

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no
later than 20 working days after the day we received your request.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are
therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our
decision, to 18 September 2023, earlier if possible.

This extension is required because the internal and external
consultations is such that necessary to make a decision on your request
are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the
original time limit.

If you have any questions, please contact us at [1][Health New Zealand request email]

If you are not happy with this extension, you have the right to make a
complaint to the Ombudsman. Information about how to do this is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or by phoning 0800 802 602.
