Thank you for your information request of 25 July 2023, asking for official information about the cost of 2023 Matariki events in Lower Hutt.

As part of the 2021-2031 Long Term Plan, $150,000 was budgeted annually by Hutt City Council to celebrate Matariki through one or many events.

The cost of this year’s community-wide Matariki Puanga Celebration, held on the 9th of July, was approximately $60,000 (final costs are currently being finalised). Of that cost, $9000 was invested in equipment that can be re-used for future events, and some costs came from existing operational budgets for marketing of the event.

All other 2023 activities were delivered in Hutt City Council hubs from existing resources and budgets and these are not accounted for separately.
