Morena Lorraine
Thank you for your information request of 8 July 2023, in which you have requested the following:
• What is the Hutt City Council paying Sustainable Coastlines for the monthly exercise of a beach clean-up and auditing the rubbish from a section of the western end of Petone Beach?
• What is the Council going to do, once it has the information from the rubbish audit?
The contract is $1900 per month for the beach clean-up and $3900 per month for the litter monitoring and auditing. These costs are GST exclusive.
This work is part of the nationwide litter intelligence programme, which follows the government-endorsed methodology for monitoring litter throughout New Zealand. As all regions apply the same methodology, the information collected from our region can be compared and compiled with that of other regions. More information about the litter intelligence programme is available on the following link: https://litterintelligence.org/
The work that is undertaken also provides local information about litter. This is used to inform Hutt City Council's reporting activities and development of future policy.
Please note that our response to your information request, including your name, may be published on Hutt City Council’s website.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this response. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
