Why is there a high staff turnover that continues to increase but your staff cost keep increasing?

In response to your Official Information Act request that you sent on 13
June. Unfortunately, we did not receive the request until several weeks
later therefore a little late in responding.

 

1.            Why is there a high staff turnover that continues to
increase but your staff cost keep increasing?

Staff turnover for the year ending 30 June 2022 was 20.82% , with staff
turnover for the year ended 30 June 2023 being 16.54%, staff turnover is
trending downward.

For the year ended 30 June 2023 there were 238 new employees who joined
NZBS and 139 exited, an additional 99 employees were employed during the
period adding to staff costs. There were also additional staff costs
associated with Collective Employment Agreement salary scale adjustments.

 

2.            Why have you registered a huge loss for the financial year
from a profit of previous financial year?

In the 2020/21 financial year NZBS received a ‘one-off’ Covid recovery
payment of $3,970,000 as detailed in Note 2 of the 2021/22 Annual Report
(available on the [1]NZBS website). No such payment was received in the
2021/22 financial year. In the 2021/22 financial year NZBS saw a range of
cost pressures arise over the course of the financial year that it was
required to absorb noting total expenses rose 9.8% compared to revenue
growth of 6.5%. The [2]NZBS 2021/22 Annual Report provides a more detailed
analysis on the revenue and expenditure make-up.
