Dear Ministry of Education,
I am requesting for any information relating to plans to build a new secondary school in milldale, Wainui, Auckland.
There is currently a primary school lot in the heart of the new subdivision with the main construction work underway on the main building. My question is with the growing population and limited capacity in surrounding districts is there plans for a new secondary school to be built alongside the primary school?
Yours faithfully,
Damien

Tēnā koe Damien
Thank you for your email of 24 May 2023 to the Ministry of Education
requesting the following information:

Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act).
The National Education Growth Plan (NEGP) identifies areas where
population growth will be highest, and demand for additional space in
schools will be greatest. It also identifies measures the Ministry may
need to consider to manage, maintain and grow the schooling network across
those areas to 2030.
The NEGP identified the need to establish and construct two new primary
schools and a secondary school in the Wainui Special Housing Area. A new
primary school, Ahutoetoe School, opened for instruction this year, with
the building project due to be fully completed in the next few months. An
additional primary school at North Wainui is also planned.
A new secondary school is anticipated to be required between 2026 and
2030. The opening date will be subject to revision dependent on demand,
budget approvals, land acquisition and the school establishment process.
It is expected the school could have capacity for up to 2,500 students.
If you require particular information in light of the above, we invite you
to come back to us with a specific request.
