Extract of Accounts Payable Summary Spend Information

Shane Gibson made this Official Information request to New Zealand Customs Service

The request was refused by New Zealand Customs Service.

From: Shane Gibson

Dear New Zealand Customs Service,

I would like an extract of the annual amount spent with all suppliers for the 2021/2022 financial year.

I would like this data in an open format, csv or json formats would be suitable.

I would like the following details provided:

- Supplier Name
- Suppliers NZBN number (if available)
- Total Amount Spent

Please provide the GST Exclusive amount spent.

I believe this information would be readily available via an extract from your Accounts Payable system.

I have already received similar data from a number of Government organisations, which implies this information can be treated as open data.

Yours faithfully,

Shane Gibson

Tçnâ koe Mr Gibson,

Extension of time limit for request under the Official Information Act
1982

Thank you for your email to the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs)
dated 9 May 2023, requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):

“I would like an extract of the annual amount spent with all suppliers for
the 2021/2022 financial year.

I would like this data in an open format, csv or json formats would be
suitable.

I would like the following details provided:

- Supplier Name

- Suppliers NZBN number (if available)

- Total Amount Spent

Please provide the GST Exclusive amount spent.”

Customs is unable to process your request within the original timeframe
because the request is for a large quantity of official information or
necessitates a search through a large quantity of information, and meeting
the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with Customs’
operations. Therefore, Customs is extending the timeframe for response by
an additional 20 working days, pursuant to section 15A(1)(a) of the Act.

The new due date for your request is 5 July 2023. Customs will provide a
response to you as soon as reasonably practicable and as soon as it
becomes available.

You have the right, by way of complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman
under section 28(3) of the Act, to seek an investigation and review of the
decision conveyed in this email.

Dear OIA,

All I can say is you are having an absolute laugh with that response.

Redacting the amount spent for every supplier, removes any value from the information.

It is absolute waste of time and money compiling something that does not answer the question I asked.

Yours sincerely,

Shane Gibson
